Adopting from HSOY

Reasons to adopt.

You can save a life

Over 60% of cats and dogs the Humane Society of Yuma takes in are euthanized every year because there are so many more homeless animals looking for a home than there are homes adopting them. Every pet deserves a chance at a forever home. With so many wonderful cats and dogs entering our shelter, you are sure to find a forever friend.

It's economical

Buying a pet from a breeder or a store cost hundreds of dollars. Shelter pets are under a hundred and come with proper vaccinations and are spayed or neutered.

Many are trained

Owners turn over their animals in large numbers. Most of these animals come already trained with a history of their behaviors, likes and dislikes.

Many are purebred

If you have your heart set on a purebred you may be surprised to know that 20% of the dogs that enter our shelter are purebreds.

Steps in the adoption process

Ask yourself some questions

Are you ready to make the commitment to provide a forever home? Will you have the time to spend together? Will you be able to properly care for the animal?

Before you adopt ask yourself the following questions.

  • Are you ready to make a long-term commitment?
  • Can you spend quality time with this animal?
  • Will you be responsible for your pet's health and safety?
  • Do you know what kind of pet is right for you?

Read our procedures

There are certain safeguards we have put in place to increase the success rate of our adoptions.
