Volunteering is a great way to show your support for Yuma’s homeless animals. There are a variety of ways to help, from working with the animals to assisting us in raising money.

Orientation

We hold a volunteer orientation the first Thursday of every month at the new Yuma Main Library from 6-7pm.

Age requirements

Volunteers must be 18 years or older. Youths between the ages of 14-17 may volunteer if they:

• Submit a letter of interest
• Attend orientation with a parent or guardian
• Must be supervised by parent or guardian at all times.

Walk our dogs

What better way to make a shelter dog’s day than to take them for a walk. We’ve got a lot of dogs who deserve a lot of walking so there’s always a high demand for volunteers with leash in hand.

Cuddle our Cats

Want to make a shelter cat’s day? Some will want to play while others will be more than content just to get their ears scratch. Our shelter cats deserve some quality one on one.

Office/Administrative

There’s always something that needs to be done around the office: data entry, stuffing envelopes, and folding newslettters. You can help us serve both the public and our guests more effectively.

Help at our thrift store

Our thrift store generates a lot of money for our low cost spay/neuter clinc. You can help make more of a difference by volunteering to pick up donations, sort donations or ring up sales. Contact Sherrell Judish (HSOY Board Member and Thrift Store Manager) directly at 580-1000.

PetSmart Pals

Many of our dogs take a trip to PetSmart on the weekends. It’s a great opportunity for them to find a forever home and if it weren’t for volunteers, it wouldn’t happen. Help with the dogs on PetSmart dog adoption days.

PetSmart Cat Cuddler

Unlike the selected dogs who visit PetSmart on the weekends, a few of our cats take up residency. Clean cages, feed, and cuddle with the cats at PetSmart.

Rescue Transportation

Our shelter is full and we do everything we can to place our dogs into rescue groups. All we have to do is get them there. You can put your name on a list and when one of our guests need a lift to Phoenix, San Diego, or Tucson, we’ll give you a call.

Special Events/Fundraisers

Volunteers who can not commit to being on a schedule can always sign up to help at special events and fundraisers.
