What's Happening at HSOY
Back to Latest News
The Humane Society of Yuma kicked off their BeHumane Educational Program this week by visiting Alice Byrne Elementary and educating the students about what it means to BEHUMANE. HSOY staff members visited every class with a pet and went over how to properly care for an animal and the differences between animal cruelty and abuse. "It is important that we start teaching Humane Education in grade school. All of the lessons we teach in the classroom pertain to animal safety and treating animals, and people with respect." Said Annette Lagunas the Executive Director for the Humane Society of Yuma. Alice Byrne Elementary raised over $2000 in donations from friends and family of the students for the general care of the homeless pets at the Yuma shelter. The top earners received some pretty amazing prizes donated by our friends at BOSE including ear buds, Bluetooth speakers and some HSOY gear.
After the Holidays HSOY plans to visit other schools in the area such as, Pueblo Elementary, Gowan Science Academy and H.L. Suverkrup Elementary. We would like to thank our Sponsors for their help with the BEHUMANE Program 3:10 Auto Works & Diesel Works LLC and BOSE. We look forward to visiting the other schools at the beginning of 2018 and are excited to educate more young minds about what it means to BEHUMANE!
