What's Happening at HSOY

During this Holiday Season here at the Shelter the pets who did not get a chance to be in a home for Christmas got to at least open presents that were donated. We had stockings hanging in the Kennels which were filled to the top!
This Christmas the pets received blankets to keep them warm, toys to keep them entertained and other miscellaneous goods that the Shelter is always in need of. The community has shown us once again their amazing generosity towards Yuma's Homeless Pets!
We were very happy to end the year on a good note and are all excited about what 2017 has in store for us! New Years Eve is a great time for families to get together and celebrate the coming of a new year, but with New Years Eve comes fireworks and firecrackers, which might be spectacular for the family but not for our pets. Every year around 4th of July and New Years Eve the Humane Society of Yuma sees a huge influx of pets come into the Shelter because pets get spooked by the loud bangs and noises. In the new year, we saw 62 stray animals come into the shelter from 12/31/16 through 1/4/17; of which 25 have been safely returned to their owners. There are many ways to prevent your pet from running away during the celebrations such as: 1. Securing your home and pets and keeping them comfortable/reduce their anxiety 2. Microchip your pets and keeping your contact information up to date. 3. Identify your pets with a collar and an identification tag.
Please share this information and help the Humane Society of Yuma reunite your family, prevent accidents and avoid your pet's experience at the shelter.
