What's Happening at HSOY
Back to Latest News
In preparation for 2017 festivities, the Humane Society of Yuma is asking its residents and visitors to think about their family pets. New Year’s Eve is the second most common time that pets go missing due to the loud noises of gunshots and fireworks.
If residents must leave their pets at home during the time that there may be loud noises, crating is the best option. When crating is not an option, securing the family pet/s in the most comfortable area inside your home is suggested. Additionally, turn on the TV or radio to add background noise to help drown out explosive noises that may cause stress to your animal. In this cold winter season, the Humane Society recommends to not only secure your animals but ensure that they have adequate housing to keep them warm. As a preventative measure, please make sure your animal is licensed, wears a tag or has a microchip. This is also a good time to make sure that all information on your pet’s identification tag is accurate and that the microchip information is also up to date and accurate. You can bring your pet to the shelter anytime during normal operating hours to have your pet Micro chipped for only $25.
Accidents happen all too often this time of the year; HSOY urges the public to keep your pets safe this holiday weekend. On January 3rd and 4th only, HSOY will waive the impound and boarding fees to return pets to their owners for animals that come in on January 1st and 2nd. Licensing and all other fees still apply. Please bring identification photos and vaccine records for your animal when coming to the shelter to look for your pet. The Humane Society of Yuma’s shelter location will be closed Monday, January 2nd.
