What's Happening at HSOY
On June 29th, three non-profit organizations joined together with Impact Club Yuma to present their charities for a chance to be awarded with a generous donation from the group. Impact Club Yuma, a local charity networking group, is aimed at making a huge impact in the community, by bringing together $100 donations from its members.
C-A-L Ranch Stores periodically has an "Item of the Month" contest where customers can purchase an item and donate it to their choice of Military, First Responders or Humane Society of Yuma. These items are miscellaneous items in the store that are usually under $10.
Since 2007, the rescue program has been executed solely by volunteers at the Humane Society of Yuma and has transferred thousands of animals each year to partnering rescue organizations that provide the additional opportunities to ensure that they get adopted. The following year, 2008, the Humane Society of Yuma was granted funding by the ASPCA to purchase a van dedicated to the transport of animals. In February of that year, they loaded the first dog, a Boxer, and transported the animal to Boxer Luv Rescue of Phoenix, the rest is history.
Bobby's Territorial Harley Davidson is always helping out where they can and this past Fathers Day they held a sweepstakes for a chance to win a basket full of over $1700 in merchandise! The basket contained prizes that were donated from various business in our area.
Thanks to the generosity of our wonderful community and Mr. David Elfers, The Humane Society of Yuma was able to raise enough money to purchase the second component to our life-saving Hematology Analyzer machine.
Golfers gathered at Desert Hills Golf Course on Saturday, June 3rd for The Humane Society of Yuma's twelfth annual Fore Paws Golf Classic, sponsored by Evans Custom Concrete!
Mr Daniel Morin a Truck Driver who is not from the area was in town picking up a load with his travel partner a pit bull named Duke, Daniel was letting Duke go to the bathroom when Duke ran off because of a jet flying over head startled him.
This past weekend we had the pleasure of hosting the students of 4th Ave Jr High as they show cased the shelter pet portraits they have spent weeks painting.
Mark Lavin, a 17 year old Eagle Scout, came to the shelter a few weeks ago and said that he wanted to set up a donation drive for his Eagle project. He asked for a list of the supplies the shelter needed most and then got to work. What happened next was truly amazing!
The Palms RV Resort transformed into a spectacular casino for this year's Critter Country: Casino Night! Guests played games and bid on silent & live auction items, listened to live music provided by Playin' Country, were dazzled by an illusionist, and more!

During this Holiday Season here at the Shelter the pets who did not get a chance to be in a home for Christmas got to at least open presents that were donated. We had stockings hanging in the Kennels which were filled to the top!
Pioneer Title Agency was very generous this Christmas to the Humane Society of Yuma.
In preparation for 2017 festivities, the Humane Society of Yuma is asking its residents and visitors to think about their family pets. New Year’s Eve is the second most common time that pets go missing due to the loud noises of gunshots and fireworks.
The Up & Coming Yuma County 4h group made 30 blankets and 15 braided cat toys, brought them to the shelter and delivered them to the pets!
