HSOY Volunteer gets nominated for Heart of Yuma Award

Last night was a wonderful evening at the Heart of Yuma Awards honoring the nomination of one of the most amazing volunteers this shelter has ever seen, Penny Sheffield. Penny dedicates many hours to help the homeless pets of Yuma and we are all so grateful for all she does for our 4-legged friends.

Penny takes it upon herself to spend extra time with the pets who really need the extra TLC, she is out in the kennels everyday of the week and even takes the pets to off site adoption events to try and find them forever homes. Having dedicated volunteers like Penny is what truly helps drive the Humane Society of Yuma in our mission to save one until there are none. Many pets come into the shelter scared and not sure of what is to come, Penny is the volunteer who ensures them that it will be ok. She is not afraid to get her hands dirty, or to even take a bite from an aggressive Chihuahua or two. She jumps in without being asked to help and is so willing to do whatever it takes to try and save every life that comes through the shelter. Everyone from HSOY is extremely happy to have Penny part of our team and we are so lucky that she has enough room in her heart for these pets who need it! Thank you Penny!
