Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Humane Society of Yuma (HSOY). We care for an average of 8,700 abandoned animals annually, all of which would not be possible without the dedication and passion of our volunteers. We are grateful for the enthusiasm our volunteers bring to the organization and their willingness to share their experience with us daily.

We have several opportunities available for prospective volunteers to become involved and make a difference with the animals. You can work directly with the animals at our shelter or one of our offsite locations, there are also volunteer opportunities available within various departments assisting staff and management with daily operations.

You must be 12 years of age to volunteer at the shelter and must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. You can volunteer independently at the shelter if you are 16 years of age or older. ALL volunteers at our Petsmart Everyday Adoption Center MUST be 18 years of age or older.

Volunteer of the Month

We'd like to take this space and time to recognize our October Volunteer of the Month, Angela Montague! Angela has been with the shelter for over 5 years and it was actually her own daughter who initially inspired her to take the plunge. If you don't spot her at the thrift store, you will usually find her freshening up the cat condos for our adorable feline friends at our Petsmart Everyday Adoption Center. She has given not just time but also love and dedication in volunteering with the shelter and when we asked her why she said that "It is nice to help out and to give something back to the community." She would like to encourage everyone looking to volunteer to "Just come out and try it and give it a day. There are many things you can do and you will surely find a spot you are comfortable in."
Please join us in thanking Angela. The shelter and the whole of the Yuma community is a better place because of her and all the wonderful volunteers we have the pleasure of knowing and working beside.
