Owner Surrender FAQ
The Humane Society of Yuma is an open admissions shelter and will not deny admission of any animal that needs our services; to include owner surrendered animals. We promise to support you through this process and will try our best to find a forever home for every animal that comes through our doors.
Is there a surrender fee?
Yes, there is a $45 surrender fee per animal to help offset the cost of caring for your animal while it is at the shelter.
Do I need to have an appointment to surrender my pet?
Yes, Please call us to schedule your appointment to surrender your pet. Before your appointment your pet must be current on vaccines. During the wait period we highly encourage you to use our Home to Home re homing option. If you are able to re home prior to your appointment please call us to cancel.
What information do I need to surrender a pet?
We ask that you bring any previous pet veterinarian/vaccination records. Proof of ownership and a valid ID is required.
Is there paperwork I need to fill out?
The owner of the animal will be required to fill out an Owner Give Up Form that provides us information on your pet while he is in our care. In addition the owner will be required to sign a statement that relinquishes the pet to the custody of HSOY. The paperwork takes approximately 15-20 minutes to fill out so please allow enough time to complete the forms.
